"Best" can be a very subjective term.

Colchester has great viewing opportunities, an active clan (often with young ones) and good photo opportunities as well with no mesh as you view them from above. Mock rock shelter in the middle of a pretty muddy enclosure. Possibly best for viewers.

YWP similar mock rock grotto in a field type set up but much larger than Colchester to the eye. huge hill in the middle which hyena hid behind on my visit practically rendering them off show. Possibly best for occupants.

Longleat, not seen it yet, is it one of the lion enclosures? looks fairly standard for longleat

I love hyenas, and I've been to Longleat a fair few times, and every damn time i cannot see the hyenas. Unfortunately they're displayed in their own enclosure round the safari, and straight after going through one of the electric gates, so you don't have much time to stop and view them.

I'm quite shocked by how few hyenas are kept in the UK! At least YWP have increased the number though.

A recent episode of Animal Park (well it was probably a repeat, but I'd not seen it before myself) mentioned that Longleat's hyenas are very elusive and it had been about two years before the TV crew actually got any footage of them, so JakeMPhillips you are not alone in missing them!
