UK Zoo Trailblazers

I was watching the gogglebox the other day and got to thinking who are our modern day zoo trailblazers in the uk- which zoologists or zoo owners are our modern stars - years ago we had the likes of Gerald Durrell or George Moffat for instance who has taken their place , how and why ?

Jim Cronin...Monkey World
Jimmy Doherty... Jimmy's farm
Paul Whitfield...Wildwood Trust
All three have pushed the boundaries of modern enclosure development for certain species. I would also include YWP but I don't know who owns it. Obviously, there are other owners of current collection's who in different ways have improved their own zoos/parks.

Molly Badham & Nathalie Evans of Twycross and Herbert Whitley of Paignton.

Given the fact that the question posed was "who has taken the place of people such as George Mottershead and Gerald Durrell" I think that naming someone who was born a decade *before* Mottershead, and two people who were similarly elder contemporaries of Durrell, doesn't quite answer the question :p

I'd also be very much disinclined to put Jimmy Doherty alongside the ranks of Durrell, Whitley, Mottershead or the Twycross pair - certainly one cannot say that he has "pushed the boundaries of modern enclosure development" as @Strathmorezoo suggests.

I would suggest that one name rises above all others where recent UK zoological professionals are concerned - Douglas Richardson.
