UK zoos & lockdown going forward...

All will become clear on Monday I guess.
Whipsnade asked for a few extra details on the email confirmation names, date of visit and phone number, this wasnt for members just the extra people we booked for.

I contacted ten zoos and the four that have replied so far do not believe photo ID is a requirement

Did you ask how they are going to to prove that all (or even any) the people listed on the booking are those that eventually turn up? Groups often change and many bookings are made weeks ahead.
Were any of them BIAZA members? The larger ones which we have contacted which are members of both organisations are taking the approach outlined for BALPPA as above. Our office has been onto this for most of the day, as I have been out on site.
Zoos are now included on the lists which previously did not include them, as requiring full T+T compliance - regardless of what BIAZA is rumoured to have told just its members.
At Hamerton every adult who does not have the app on their phone, will be required to fill in the data manually; regardless of what they have entered when booking on-line - unless it all changes again... Just hope that the hasty bulk order of pencils arrives in time...!

@Andrew Swales
I was just about to go to work when I sent the messages and simply asked if paying guests would be required to present photo ID when they arrive. Of the nine (not ten as I'd thought) all but one are BIAZA members. All the responses were as brief as my question, with only one mentioning T+T. I think the majority of the zoos I contacted do have photos on their memberships.

I have messaged a further six as well as BIAZA.
ZSL and Yorkshire are amongst those that do not have messenger on their facebook, as far as I can see.

And very sensible that is too. Its the same approach as recommended by BIAZA.

The list on Maintaining records of staff, customers and visitors to support NHS Test and Trace - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
hasn't been updated since yesterday and still doesn't mention zoos by name (irrespective of whether we agree they fall under the heading "heritage locations and attractions open to the public".

Not rumoured.

Hardly - BALPPA are saying zoos have to record T+T data as detailed - you are saying that BIAZA are telling their members that they are exempt and don't have to.

Maybe, but zoos are specifically listed elsewhere. As I said I have been on-site today,so it ill be tomorrow before I have the link.

Not rumoured.

Yes, as there is no evidence.

Is there any online record of this?

I just checked the BIAZA website and found the following document which indicates the reverse was the case (as AS notes) until at least a week ago:

https://biaza.org.uk/downloader/1792

To wit:

If you use this link now, it has been updated 9th stating that DEFRA have confirmed that zoos and aquariums ARE exempt from the legal requirement to keep T+T data.
Offers please, for 1000 economy pencils...?

Sounds like a logistical nightmare. If supermarkets which are inside don't do it can't see why zoos should. Track n trace going to ring everybody who went to Chester zoo on a particular day and tell them to isolate and get a test?

There is confusion amongst BIAZA and zoos without a doubt with regards to details required for T+T when visiting zoos. This hurts my head and I'm only a visitor so I feel real sorry for those in this and every other industry with paying guests.
Of those I messaged, one zoo has said only the head of the group needs to give contact details, whereas another zoo and BIAZA specifically say all visitors. I assume, by only taking the head of a group's details, they are capturing a contact for the whole group as they should not be mixing with other households?

This is not required where people are able to scan the QR code thing

Other households are now allowed to meet outdoors and have been for some time, not everyone in every group is going to be from the same household.
I've already sent my details to Dudley for next week andthe booking isn't in my name. In fact they sent an e-mail out asking for each person's details. Not sure if we're required to give further details once on site or not but the e-mail was pretty comprehensive and I'm not sure where the logic would be in making me fill it out again.

No, not now - although we all have headaches too...!
BIAZA have now published the DEFRA confirmation that zoos and aquariums are exempt - which they had previously only divulged to their their members.
Please follow TLD's link above.
Please scratch all I said above, as it has been overtaken by these changes - and I am sorry if what I said has since caused confusion.
At Hamerton (at least) we always follow the latest available advice, and so now will not be taking any details or displaying the QR codes. This should greatly smooth entry and eliminate direct staff contact.

If You were referred to Zoo Attendance Contact Details then that applies to all those aged 16 and over including you.
But, collecting the data on-line like this for those who have booked, does not record the details of those who actually visit - which is what T+T requires.
Substitutions often happen with zoo visits, especially now bookings are often made some time ahead. Many other sectors would not have this issue, as you would hardly use someone else's booking at a hair-dressers, or dentists...

I noticed ZSL and Chester do not require members to book weekdays (apart from school holidays) from Monday 17th :)
Nice to get a little more spontaneity back in my life

Just a thought, since most aquariums are reopening tomorrow, will more indoor exhibits in zoos be open as well?

Paignton have announced that Amphibian Ark, Arid Lands (Desert House), Bongo House, Bugs at Home, Croc Swamp, Rhino House, Tropical House (Trails) will be open. The Ape House, Tortoise House, Giraffe House and Nocturnal House will remain closed.

I see, so a reopening of only the buildings that allow social distancing. Hopefully the same for other zoos as well.
