Upcoming conservation-related activities in Australia

I thought that it would be a good idea to have a thread for us to post about upcoming conservation activities in Australia that may be of interest to forumites.

Maybe David Attenborough will be in town, or Jane Goodall will be giving a speech at Melbourne Zoo? Maybe there's a zoo conference on, or a Birdlife National bird count survey?

I'll start us off with this one:

Sir David Attenborough will be in Melbourne in November for his new 'The Third Dimension' show: Sir David Attenborough tickets, dates. Official Ticketmaster site.

Good idea nanoboy.

I went to SDA (that's what I call him to make it sound like I went somewhere "gangsta") last year, and can't justify another heap of money this year sadly, although it is an all new show, and some of my friends are going.

The second series of his show, David Attenborough's Natural Curiosities, premieres on channel 7 next Monday at 7.30pm too. I think it might include some stuff about the virgin female Komodo Dragon that gave birth at (?)Chester Zoo a while back.

Yes, I just did a costing, and two tickets are $500. My beef is always that no portion of ticket receipts goes to conservation. To put this in perspective, two reserved tickets to see Lady Gaga (who will fly her band and tonnes of equipment over for a stage spectacular) in Melbourne in August are $340. I will not be attending SDA's show this time on principle.

I'll watch the Natural Curiosities doco on TV for free though.
