Just a quick update only popped in for a couple of hours.

1 - Chester have received 1.0 Lowland Anoa from London who is on the Anoa Island.
2 - Malindi is now in Tsavo House and Manayara is in the off-show house to get her used to Sammy again.
3 - Not all the Visayan Warty Pigs will move to the new enclosure so don't expect any new species to take their old enclosure.
4 - Golf is not open, even thou I have had an email about its opening
5 - Also the new babirusa and otter enclosure seems to be no where near finished.

I was told they didn't plan to get anymore, things change.

The male is middle aged so maybe a female on the cards, I was just so excited that they had them back I forgot to ask :o

And I've swopped my anoa adoption for the warty pigs. I must change it back in September.

Made my day! Cheers for the update taun!

One thing I forgot to mention is that RoRA has window cracked! One near the exit looking onto the outdoor area with moat.

A gather they haven’t replaced it yet as it’s the outside windowpane (double glassed).

Just a quick update from are visit from the zoo on Sunday. The Rhea had broken there eggs and were eating them there were atleast two dead chicks in the enclosure not sure if this is usual behaviour?

Also finally saw the madrills outside the dominant male which i think is named JC is really impressive.

Again lots of kids banging on the glass especially in RORA including a few adults!!!

There are two breeding pairs, I did know their names but I can't remember, and I was given the name of one of the males on Friday.

Browsing the 'Okapi in North America' thread I followed a link from okapikpr's recent posting to an article from San Diego WAP ' Exciting time at the okapi barn ' . At the bottom amongst the responses is one from Claire Rooney , Okapi Keeper at Chester referring to the recently arrived male .

I quote - ' our female Stuma does not cycle properly but we're hoping that this new ( and handsome) blood may kick her back in ' .

It's referring to Dicky from London I think. Or have I just missed the point of your question:confused:

Chester have been working close with San Diego regarding husbandry of Okapi's and it has been known for keepers to travel to the states to work with keepers there to pick up more knowledge and practical skills of working with these difficult animals.
