visited today, new enclosure being built for Snow Leopards to arrive by end of the year.

Snow Leopards? That seems a major investment/change of direction for a place that was up for sale not so long ago...
I wonder where they'll be coming from?

I guess that would be the obvious answer, however if the RSCC is planning on becoming a 'private' feline centre. I would imagine they would want to keep theirs...

Whilst at Lakeland, I was told that this major species was hoped to attract more visitors to the park, therefor producing the income to develop the zoo. When I visited, the enclosures construction looked good. I do not know what stage it is at now!

Forgive me for lack of info, new to the site and don't post that often, the enclosure is expected to be finished at end of Sept and they hope to have 2 snow leopards in place by the end of the year. They hope to get them from within the uk depending on availability, it also depends on the person in charge of the studbook, one from Australia is a possibility but that would be costly.

I was told they were coming from Australia, by a keeper, when I visited in May. But who knows, given recent developments at RSCC, things might change?

Some sad news, the single Fossa cub born a few weeks ago died aged just a few days old :(

I assume the Australian zoo snow leopards would be a good genetic addition to the EAZA/EEP breeding population?

Shame about the fossa cub dying! Back to the drawing board ... alas.
Anyone up for direct fossa imports from Madagascar for infusing much needed new blood in the EEP population???
(I do find it disconcerting that no-one is interested to have the tens of fossas confiscated in Madagascar and eeking out a non-releasable existence in captivity are shunned by the EEP ..... It is a GENETIC WASTE of VALUABLE CRITICAL ENDANGERED SPECIES).

Any recent updates on the Snow Leopards and their enclosure? Have heard nothing to say that they have arrived and the park's website isn't revealing anything

I visited just before Christmas, the developments are coming along fine, although the enclosure seems to have quite abit more work to be done on it at the moment. Will try and dig out some photos... :)
