Closed Uploading Problems

I got a new camera for Christmas, a 12 mega-pixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38, and was trying it out at Marwell yesterday. However, I've found uploading to be a brainache: It literally takes ages to upload even when the load bar is full, and any result is usually a 'cannot display the webpage' or even a revert back to the uploading page. I just about achieved three photos once, but that was it. And a tried the Flash uploader, and that didn't work either.

Could it be a problem with my camera make, a site bug or just my computer?

Your photos are probably just in a very high resolution. Have you checked their size (in megabytes)? I always resize my photos with about 50 % before uploading. You can't see it on the site anyway but they take up WAY less space

Resize a copy of the photos to no more than 1600x1200 resolution on your computer before you upload them - will save you a lot of time, especially if you don't have a fast internet connection.

Right; so that's dozens of photos going through a tedious resizing process (I've checked the sizes, and they are much larger than those on my previous camera). May be wishful thinking, but would there be any way to create a new size limit for whenever they are put on the computer?

The software that came with your camera should make it easy to resize them - maybe even in batches.

Alternatively, buy something like Adobe Photoshop Elements which makes it easy to manage your photos and export copies at a specific resolution.

Personally I use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to manage my collection of 50,000+ photos ... makes it very easy to select photos I want to upload and export them at the correct resolution to minimise upload times to the gallery.
