Quote from Ryan Gulker, deputy director of Sedgwick County Zoo.
Currently, there are about 350 gorillas in exhibit at 52 zoos across the nation, Gulker said.
To keep the population steady, the survival plan calls for 10 to 14 babies to be born each year.
Quote.
I wonder in our efforts to manage gorilla poulations, if we are doing the right thing by gorilla groups by keeping such a low rate of reproduction.
As obviously the socialisation and welfare of a gorilla group is significantly enhanced when young are part of the mix.
Does anyone know if there is a similiar number for European zoos?
