The Greater Vancouver Zoo has a pair of Vancouver Island wolves, and they are kept in a 10-acre enclosure with 5 black bears. According to ISIS these two wolves are the only ones in existence in captivity, and the zoo prides itself on the presence of its unique wolves. However, I have found it confusing as to whether Vancouver Island wolves, found off of the coast of British Columbia, are well and truly a separate subspecies. Aren't they simply a phase of the grey wolf? They are definitely smaller and skinnier than the Arctic wolves found at the same zoo.
