Vertebrate-eating pitcher plants discovered in Ontario

Research has revealed and newly documented that purple pitcher plants (Sarracenia purpurea purpurea) in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada regularly feed on juvenile salamanders.

This is kind of horrifying yet also quite fascinating at the same time.

Why are you horrified? What is the difference between a plant that eats animals and animals that eat other animals?
