Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Visiting Longleat Safari Park

Hello,

I'm planning a trip to Longleat with some friends next Sunday and was wondering if anyone has previously tried to use different discounts and vouchers to get in. None of us work full time, so anyway of limiting cost is kind of essential. I'm the only non-student of the group, lol.

Anyway, I intend to use a two for one voucher for two of us, therefore halving the cost, and then the other two intend to use Tesco days out voucher things. Obviously the different vouchers would be used on different tickets, but I was wondering whether they only allowed a single type per group, rather than per ticket.

I love visiting Longleat. I tend to go annually, and it was on a visit on my first ever visit there on my 9th birthday where I decided I wanted to be a zookeeper, lol. :D

- Also, quick note. There's no chance Animal Adventure will be open by then will there? I mean, the park is only open for another month, and it is advertised as opening Autumn 2009.

the butterfly house is now open at aniaml adventure, not sure about the rest. They have added a couple of new images to their website of the progress

Animal Adventure will probably be open by half-term at the earliest; it's still not complete, and as it's been advertised as opening during the 2009 season they may just want to squeeze it in just before it's over.
And yeah, I also tend to go to Longleat annually too, and I think most of my childhood zoo memories come from there, including my love for elephants. :)

Thats a shame. It would, in all honesty, make sense to scrap any ideas of opening it this season and then flog it as a new attraction next year. The average visitor won't really remember that it was supposed to open this year. It's a shame, if that's the case, that it will only be open for a week before being shut again for several months. A bit of an anticlimax opening to something that was looking to be quite phenomenal.

Still, I hope it is open for when I go. And if it is, you can count on an extensive review. I'm going again in February (got to check opening dates first), and will see it then, I suppose. But still, it would be great to see it next week.

=/

The last longleat report I saw said the animal adventure attraction was unlikely to open this season, sorry.

Dang. Ah well. There's always February.

I've emailed them asking what combinations of vouchers I can use and added a little question about AA as an afterthought. Hopefully they won't just reply with a generic response and they'll say either way whether it will be open.

Could you inquire about what’s going to happen to monkey jungle and also if there are any Rhino pregnancies?

Thanks

I've heard that the Monkey Jungle will remain closed for this season and then, all being well be open for next season. I shall try and find a keeper to ask about the rhinos. I've never spoken properly to a keeper at Longleat before.

Will the pets corner lot know, or is there a keeper around in the safari park somewhere who answers questions. :S

Had a really really good day today. Managed to do absolutely everything by 4:30pm and overshot the journey a bit, which meant we were about sixth into the park.

Animal Adventure wasn't open (except for the Butterfly Garden), and looks pretty far on in developments. The exhibits are all made up now and feature soil, housing, water bowls, the lot. Its just the paths in between the exhibits that need doing. To be honest, I'd doubt a 2009 opening for this. It would make more sense to use it as a new attraction next year.

Anywho, news on the Rhinos: :D
One of the females was mated a while back and didn't come back into season when she was supposed to. They've yet to have a confirmation that she (I don't know who) is definately pregnant... but it's looking promising!!

Fingers crossed :D:D

Well it works out nicely, because me, the silly fool that I am, left my free entry voucher at home. I've convinced another group of friends that they want to go and am going again on the 25th, lol.

I shall ask on any news on the Rhino pregnancy then. :D
Now that I know where the person is to ask the questions to, is there anything else people wanna know?

Would you ask them if the elephants have gone for good

yes and if they plan to bring in anymore species for the reserves and will they try to breed the amur tiger, aswell as did they breed the bengals before they died off.

Well, I'll ask...

But to be honest, I think I can guess the answer.

I think they bred Bengal Tigers at some point, but I don't think it was from the three old tigers. I think I read somewhere that they do intend to breed the Amur Tigers, but there are no plans at the moment. I'll ask for an update all the same.

As for more species, did you have anything particular in mind or just any new additions? There'll probably be something to come. There normally is, each year.
I'd like to see Longleat have a Bongo and Okapi reserve, but of course, there's a rule with aquisition of Okapi's at the moment, isn't there?

Also, I don't think I mentioned earlier, but something the keeper told me was that Winston the Rhino has sadly died. I didn't know if this was something people were already aware of, but I thought I'd pass it on.

I didn't know that, and it is a shame to hear. :( But then he was getting on, and it least it means the rhinos don't have to alternate between the yard and the reserve each day anymore.

Very sad :( do you know when he died? I thought I saw him on my last visit at the end of August but prehaps I was mistaken :(

I got the impression from how she said that it was in the last month or so. Although, this is just me guessing. The only rhinos left now are the three from Africa.

Yet only one rhino was out in the park, and the other two were in the yard. Maybe they're keeping the male and the non-mated female close together to encourage another mating.
