Walking surface

Hey does anyone else prefer a dirt trail to walk on at a zoo instead of hard concrete? One zoo around me has 3/4 of the trails dirt and also grass on the side to walk on even in areas with concrete. The other is completely 100% concrete. My feet hurt when I spend HOURS hiking on concrete. It's cheaper to just put down some dirt and grade it then pouring concrete and people can still push a stroller on it easily. I don't get why zoo's make the entire trails concrete?! So annoying.

I don't know where you live, but round here we sometimes get this transparent liquid that falls from the sky and makes dirt paths messy and slippery for everyone and damned near impossible for standard pushchairs and wheelchairs.

No problem with rain here from that gravel/dirt mixture they use at the zoo.

I think you're thinking of mud season in northern new england.
Again, one zoo, which is huge, has no problem with dirt/gravel paths. Southwick zoo has those types of paths, while roger williams park is 100% concrete.

Also, not sure how easy it would be to roll a wheelchair yourself up a hill, which many zoos have. Most people would kind of need someone to help you if you're in a wheelchair. Especially if they're elderly or other issues. That would be incredibly tiring no matter what surface to wheel yourself around a zoo all day long especially on steep inclines

I have removed the photos as they were far too large. If you want to have them on the thread then resize them to appropriate dimensions before posting thanks.
