Dear Colleagues it has been a while since I contacted the group and it is unfortunate that I re-establish contact with you with bad news.
It was reported on 29th August that Ploiesti Zoo’s (Romania) remaining Wallaby has been mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs.
The Wallaby was found dead in its enclosure, the zoo staff saw a pack of wild dogs next to the dead wallaby and they had blood on their noses.
The accident is blamed on staffing problems at the zoo, which is about 50 kilometres north of the capital Bucharest.
A lack of security staff to survey the enclosures is believed to have enabled the dogs to jump over the barrier to the wallaby's enclosure.
Its mate was reported to have been bitten to death by a rat earlier this year!
