Amazonia - Senegal Galago has died, Kinkajou has bred (one youngster a few weeks ago)
Five Sisters -Amazed how much has changed for the positive since my previous visit in September. New enclosures in the "main open area" (bordering the fairground) are good, effective and fill the place out nicely. It's starting to feel like a proper little zoo now rather than an expanding private collection (hope that makes some sense). It was particularly nice to see the Dwarf Mongoose tearing around what must be (to them) a very large enclosure (shared with Porcupines). The other additions in this area are enclosures for Prairie Dogs (vast), Bat-eared Foxes and Fennec Foxes. The new Otter enclosure (ex crocodillian & Meerkat, not mixed
) is also nicely done.
Scottish Owl Centre -A new place for me (within a stone's throw of Five Sisters). Nice little place with a good species selection including a few rarities (Barred Owl, Black-banded Owl, Western Screech Owl, Tropical Screech Owl, Malay (Buffy) Fish Owl, Suna Scops Owl). The educational/interpretative material was superb and the staff were knowledagble & friendly).
