Jordon my Neice went on Friday both the Lemur Wood and the Village were open will try and get some photographs from her when she visits

West Mids Facebook page reports that both Amur Leopard have moved to Tayto Park, Ireland....

I don't know if it has been mentioned already but 2 Leopards have recently left WMSP for the recently opened Tayto Park in Ireland

Penguins

According to WMSP recent flyer they have a colony of Penguins arriving soon (or maybe already here?)

Events - West Midland Safari Park

blurb states:

"And, this year there will be some extra ‘cool’ animals to meet. New Penguin Cove, which is to be situated in Discovery Trail, will be open in time to welcome Santa and his team. This fabulous new exhibit will be home to our new colony of Penguins and will incorporate a pool with semi-submerged beach, sculptures, penguin house and public viewing areas. There will be some feeding opportunities and a variety of talks to introduce these beguiling little animals."

Does anybody know what species of penguin is going to be kept. I'm going to hazzard a guess at yet ANOTHER colony of Humboldts, but for the sake of penguin diversity I would love it to be something like Magellanic, Rockhopper or Gentoo (all not kept commonly over here). This is just my opinion though.

I visited a couple of weeks ago and they were only just beginning the build so I suspect this won't be open until next year.

The exhibit is being built on the site of the smaller fur seal pool as you enter the walk-around area. I presume they have chosen this site as it will be easy to link up to the existing filtration system, but it seems a bit cramped and is bound to cause some congestion if large crowds gather in front of the penguins.

Says the new exhibit will be open in time to welcome Santa & his team - so it's got to be early december this year at the latest I'd say!

Good point! That seems like a very quick turnaround - makes you wonder if it's going to be a "cheap and cheerful" exhibit.

Indeed - fingers crossed it's rapid but quality then hey :)

and a nice uncommon species here in the UK - I'd love to see Macaroni or Rockies but like JR says it'll probably be Humbolts as they are easier to accquire from excess stock in the UK at the moment?
