Visited Yesterday.
Was extremely busy and full of children.
Everything showed well to be honest and we tried our best to determine how many of each carnivorous species they had on show.
1:10-White Lions
3:8-African Lion
5-dhole
2-Sumatran Tiger
5-White Tigers
4-Cheetah
It was impossible to actually count the number of African painted dogs as the pack looks to now be well over 20.
Few Questions Now:
Does anyone know if they plan to upgrade the Hippo enclosures because there doesn’t seem to be any grazing land for them.
Like wise is there any plans in place for a new elephant house.
The pride of white lions seems to be getting bigger and bigger so is it likely they will be moved on or is it likely no one else will take them.
Finally are the white lions and tigers still breeding or has that been stopped now.
Thanks

I am sure I read a while back that they are planning to build an improved elephant enclosure, but that locals were objecting.

The thing is that they could maybe house a bull if they were to build anew house

They have stopped breeding the white tigers as I was told by a keeper last week, but I’m unsure about the white lions.

Went today, and as usual saw everything the Safari has to offer, apart from the following:
•Sambar deer
•Asian Water Buffalo
•Congo/Forest Buffalo
•Ostrich

Do they still keep these species?,thanks.

Are the Asian water buffalo the ones near the exit of the safari, in an enclosure on the left hand side?

I visited a couple of months ago and this is what I recall :-

•Sambar deer

Didn't notice any, think they be down to one or maybe none.

•Asian Water Buffalo

About 5 or 6, hanging around by the pool in the Asian reserve.

•Congo/Forest Buffalo

A few in the main reserve, not sure of numbers but definitely more than 5.

•Ostrich

Down by the rhino and giraffe houses, in a small separate paddock. I only saw one female but there may have been more as you couldn't get a decent view of the whole enclosure.

Did you see the mouflon and yak (Not sure if the latter are still there?) outside of the fence along the Asian reserve? Last visit I saw a fair few mouflon, I thought they only had a couple so it was a nice surprise.

Thanks, I did notice a yak, although no mouflon sadly, wasn’t aware they held them.
Not many places in the UK hold sambars anymore, which is a shame though.

Faida was born at Hannover. Acacia came from Givskud in Denmark. Bwindi was also imported from the Czech Republic (I believe a different zoo to Arusha - they didn't arrive together)
