West Midland Safari and Leisure Park West Mids 2013

The existing African Lion enclosure has undergone a major renovation
News - West Midland Safari Park

I can't decide whether I'm charmed by the absurdity of the giant lion's head sculpture or it's just plain stupid (I had a similar experience recently with the large Medusa sculpture in the main tank at Great Yarmouth Sealife Centre -it's the sort of thing you'd expect to see in a star's home in Cribs rather than at a public aquarium).

Appears that the incoming female Giraffe (mentioned on 2012 thread) has arrived.... and that they are down to two males (and her, so 2.1 in total)

Nice to see the Lions sitting on top of it just the way they would use a rocky Kopje outcrop as a lookout in the wild. If they have naturalised the whole area that's a good idea too- most Safari Park Lion enclosures are still just chunks of unaltered parkland. But the Lion sculpture seems very out of place in that case- rather naff IMO (like their predeliction for 'White' animals.)

do they have dholes now?

i would have thought they would have shouted about them more than the lions to be honest but i think thats just me talking out loud!

They certainly do have Dholes, they replaced the Wolves.Bongorob and myself visited last year on the first day that they where let out into the reserve!

Sorry don't know how many they have in total,we only saw 2 as they were being very shy that day.As to what happened to the Wolves I'm not sure but the pack was getting on a bit!

The remaining Timber wolves were re-housed at the Scottish Deer Centre

The first Persian Fallow Deer to be born in the UK since......?

I could be wrong here but I was fairly sure they bred at Edinburgh before the arrival at WMSP. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though... ;)

Faida - Pure bred rothschild female departed Chester Zoo for West Midlands a couple of days ago.

This must be number 2 then.

I expect the hybrid bulls Strider (it seems Winston is no more ..) and Henry will leave for a bull herd or be maintained in a different part of WMSP.
