What endangered species have you seen?

I was wondering how many people here have seen endangered/critically endangered species in the wild. I have personally seen one: the Whooping Crane.

I have seen two northern fin whales, a gopher tortoise, many Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles, a loggerhead sea turtle, a green sea turtle, and a hawksbill sea turtle in the wild. These are the only species I’ve seen wild which fit into the IUCN Threatened category (Vulnerable, Endangered, or Critically Endangered). As you can see, I have good luck with sea turtles.

Interesting thread idea! let me check the IUCN red list website & see if I can come up with a list...
Vulnerable
Basking Shark Cetorhinus maximus
Common Pochard Aythya ferina
Slavonian Grebe Podiceps auritus
Lion Panthera leo
Leopard Panthera pardus
Cheetah Acinonyx jubatus
African Bush Elephant Loxodonta africana
Giraffe Giraffa camelopardalis
Hippopotamus Hippopotamus amphibius
Southern Ground Hornbill Bucorvus leadbeateri
Endangered
nothing yet I don't think!
Critically Endangered
White-backed Vulture Gyps africanus
European Eel Anguilla anguilla

Oh yeah, I forgot that I have also seen a Horned Grebe and some Common Carp, both of which are Vulnerable.

I've seen common carp, but wasn't including it as its an introduced population outside it's native range, which is not included in the IUCN assessment.

Herps and Fishes (and checking these was a lesson in how much work IUCN still has ahead - so many 'not evaluateds'):

CR:
Lesser Antillean Grove Snake - Alsophis antillensis
European Eel - Anguilla anguilla

EN:
Lesser Antillean Iguana - Iguana delicatissima

VU:
Ocean Sunfish - Mola mola

I really can't compete with those living in exotic places or traveling into the wild countries for find exciting species. But at least I can apport my small grain of sand, with those lesser-known species that are often forgoten by general public.

American Bumblebee Bombus pensylvanicus - VU
Cinquefoil Skipper Pyrgus cirsii - VU
Common Predatory Bush-cricket Saga pedo - VU
Pyrenean Short-winged Grasshopper Gomphoceridius brevipennis - VU
White-clawed Crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes - EN

For sure there are some more species, but these are just the ones that popped up in my mind. Checking in IUCN, I'm susprised that the butterflies Chazara prieuri and Euchloe bazae was downgraded to Least Concern - not sure if they should.

:eek::eek::eek:
What are your thoughts on the chances of this species' continued survival?

My bad, and thanks for pointing it out.

I was in Pohnpei in 1992. I have photos of the lorikeet, fruit bat and fantail and when I was going through the IUCN website it listed the starling I thought I had seen it, not realising it was a rarity.
Clearly, I did not see it. I wasn't even aware how rare it is. As for it's continued existence, I really can't say as it been 25 years since I was there and I don't know how the island has developed. If it is today still pretty much as it was back then, I think there would be a good chance of it surviving.

And I've removed it from the list.

I can do this quite easily for birds (thanks to keeping my sightings in the HBW system and being able to filter by conservation status) so I'll start with that:

CR: (5)
Northern Bald Ibis
White-headed Vulture
Hooded Vulture
White-backed Vulture
Ruppell's Vulture

EN: (11)
Grey Crowned-Crane
African Penguin
Indian Yellow-nosed Albatross
Eastern Curlew
Great Knot
Cape Vulture
Lappet-faced Vulture
Steppe Eagle
Long-billed Black-cockatoo
Short-billed Black-cockatoo
Rufous Scrub-bird

VU: (15)
Somali Ostrich
Southern Cassowary
Malleefowl
Long-tailed Duck
Velvet Scoter
Common Pochard
Black Crowned-crane
Lesser Adjutant
Dalmatian Pelican
Atlantic Puffin
Secretarybird
Martial Eagle
Greater Spotted Eagle
Southern Ground-hornbill
White-crowned Reed-warbler

I might come back and do mammals later but I'll have to do that manually going through my list.
