Giraffes in Thailand in the Philippines

I gave up counting the number of giraffe in Safari World when I got to number 60 as there was too much weaving about. Definitely a sight to behold and an enjoyable interactive exhibit too. Much more could be done to make it an educational experience. Safari World is crass commercialism at its worst.

In the Philippines though Giraffe can be seen on Calauit Island. This was the former private reserve of ex President Marcos. Large numbers of African Animals were released onto the island and left very much to their own devices. There are a number of Giraffe and Zebra there today. Today though the animals are managed by a luxury hotel which includes a 'safari' package for their guests. There is an impressive list of African species there mingled in with endemic Philippine fauna. I believe they only have around twenty Giraffe there though.

Thank you tonypaph,

The list is impressive. You appear to be very well informed. I wonder if you can help me. I would be interested to learn of any conservation work in Safari World (in situ and ex situ as part of a recognised programme) and education of any kind (with the exception of EggWorld...which is) and your thoughts on the value of the Orangutan Boxing matches.

Thanks and Best Wishes
