That's what I've been finding.@elefante I believe Johannesburg is THE major international hub (with most connections) for all of southern Africa.

Thanks for all of the responses. I think I'm going to end up going with the Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia trip. It's cheaper and I'm a little nervous about camping in a rustic camp in Africa and also am unsure about doing it for nearly two weeks. Seeing as how elephants are my favorite animal I definitely would love the chance to see lots of them in the wild. My other reason for avoiding that was because the tour didn't stop in Etosha but as I research I think Namibia deserves a trip in and of itself. I think I'll wait until I can swing a trip to Kenya not in a primitive camp. So here's another question. I may have to fly into Johannesburg or Cape Town to keep costs down. Anyone been to either of those? Pros? Cons?
Carry-on or checked-luggage? Surely the checked luggage would be more vulnerable to thievery than something which is actually on your person?...make sure you have no valuables whatsoever in your carry on, even a lock won't protect them.

No elephants, no - well - no most of any animal most tourists go to see. No solid tourist infrastructure. Plus the poster said at the very beginning they have two trips (and only two trips) they are deciding between. The question is not which country out of all countries in Africa should I go to? The question is which tour should I choose: the one to Kenya or the one to Botswana/Zambia/Namibia.
I guess I misread the question. Besides that, there are elephants in Ethiopia. The Babile elephant sanctuary in eastern Ethiopia has elephants. Southern Ethiopia has giraffes, buffalo, leopards, and hippos. Cheetahs can be found in Ethiopia as well. The issue with tourism beside the political unrest is that’s other more popular countries like Kenya and Tanzania are just more popular to visit and are famous for the scenery and wildlife to a point where it’s easy to look over Ethiopia. If I had to choose though I would say what @elefante choose is the better option. Namibia is a beautiful country and the wildlife is definitely worth going for.
Those tours look like fun. A little out of my budget at the moment though. Someday. That's nice you found one to Tsavo. That seems hard to find. Are you going to Nairobi National Park as well?I just signed up for an under canvas safari to Kenya with a small group from Brookfield Zoo. Going to Samburu, Mt. Kenya, lake Nakuru National Park, Maasai Mara (including an hot air balloon ride at dawn) and on to Tsavo and Amboseli Park. Hope to see many animals. My kids even got me a pair of bonoculars with a built in video camera.
