Am I right in thinking, that the only White Tiger left in the UK now, is the one at Hamerton?

Thats what I'm thinking but I could be wrong. Unsure of age of background of Hamerton tiger though

If Lincolnshire Wildlife are successful with their fundraising campaign then there will be a new holder this year.

Hamerton currently houses a single male white tiger named Mohan who was born in 2012 and arrived from a zoo in Germany I'm pretty sure.

and at the moment mohan is the only white one in the country. . i would like to see a couple more white tigers shipped over to the uk cause some places in the world still have quiet a few in captivity. im aware of the poltics and ethics surrounding this but it is part of history and could be an education to some people in the future.

In regards to Mohan am I right in that he was transferred from abroad?

I understand your reasons for importing more white tigers, however, would people in general be interested in the "ethics" of keeping white tigers and the health issues that can occur from breeding them or would they just visit because it's a "white tiger"?
It could just be seen as a £ making scheme that would be picked up on by some unfortunate groups(mentioning no names).
I'm not criticising any collection that wants to house them in the future btw

Personally I'd like to not see any more white tigers arrive in the UK(unless they are rehoming missions with no other options , ie: ex circus/pets).

However 6 collections in the British Isles no longer keep white tigers since their last deaths starting from 2005(there maybe more that I'm missing)

Yes, Mohan was transferred from somewhere in Germany as far as I am aware. Not sure of the specific location of where he was sourced from but I am pretty sure it was somewhere in Germany.

By process of elimination, the notes on Zootierliste suggest it would have been Hodenhagen.

THIS. Really sums up my opinion regarding white tigers as well.

Don't get me wrong, I think white tigers have a mythical flare to them and they look as stunning as any other tiger. I always loved seeing the white tigers at WSMP whilte I was growing up.

But the issues regarding the inbreeding and hybridisation white tigers have endured, and their infamy when it comes to health issues. Then unless they're rescues with no other option left, I'd rather see no white tigers in collections.

I will always have really fond memories seeing white tigers like Scrap and Buster. But the existence of white tigers sadly represents the worst in our history of breeding animals, and should always be taken as lesson of how damaging and wrong it is for the animals themselves.

I am personally mixed on the breeding on white lions and tigers. On one hand they do happen naturally and are more impressive than the normal ones, but are mostly inbred and have very bad genetics, and that needs to be stopped with what we know about animals in the 21's century. I think that the only white lions and tigers kept in zoos should be in cases such as the wildheart animal sanctuary and lincolnshire wildlife park, where they are either rehomed from other zoos, or rescued from places that are mistreating the animals.
