Since last surveyed in 2003, the wild population has increased by 268 for a total count of 1,864:

In retrospect / in contrast: the global captive giant panda population has also increased from 80 up to 600, the majority of which are still in PR Chinese zoos. The Chengdu Research Base alone now holds 206 giant panda!
