Hi all ,
For the past couple of years we have been rebuilding the Bali Zoo in Singapadu Bali .Bali Zoo - Nature's Education Centre - HOME
After my 30 years of working in the industry mainly in South East Asia and Pacific i have found it most frustrating trying to teach compassion and general hygiene and animal skills ..How many times have i seen a slow lori unwell just thrown in the corner left to die or a monkey locked up for years on end because they thought he might bite or had no cage big enough to display it it to the public .Countless times ive sprung upon a zoo and no water or food for the animals .
My idea is to build an education centre in Agro at Pelaga .Its already built and boosts 40 hects of fruits and ariculture .This goes hand in hand with the local agricultural school next door (local) not yet international school .
Bagus Discovery | BALI TOUR PACKAGE AND BALI TOUR DESTINATION go to pelaga agro ..This will give you an idea of the facility .I fly over on Sunday to Bali to commence our zoo rangers program .This will cover all the general well being of all animals as well courses to look after the good old cat and dog .I have found after years of education at schools, hands on and getting past the religious reasons why we cant look after an animal we are getting some where ,at last .The penny has dropped ...I am arranging school exchanges now from other regions and countries to explore and learn .This has worked very well in other countries ,Indonesia is very quickly realising they too have to protect the wild life and respect it .Has any one any in put they would like to submit or what do you all think of my once crazy idea that has now turned into a really nice way and natural way to educate .We have kids birthdays now and they come to learn and hear about how they too can become zoo rangers and look after animals when they see a neighbor not doing the right thing they are like neighborhood watch for animals..It stamps out **** fighting and dogs tied up for hours or mange ridden animals finally getting help .Usually its the tourist who feel sorry for the street dogs .Now we are getting he locals helping as well telling the local markets its not cool to trap baby monkeys for money .They tell about zoonotics and how they are ruining the wild life .

Just letting you all know what we are up to .Happy to hear anyone's thoughts .

its a great idea..definately not a crazy one! here in INDIA awareness factor is lacking.we are also developing similiar centre in zoo.CEE (centre for environment education)in india is the one designing these programs and the diff centres ..would like to know more about the kind of activities which will take place in this centre.please specify in detail.
i am personally designing one of the centre so, ur opinions would really be helpful to enhance the activities.

HI Nidhi ,
I have in fact been invited to India by the minister of forestry and the author of Jungalees Raja Chatterjee .I have been asked to help with the wild life reserves as well education and tourism .We have a very large net work and try to link and help as many people as we can .Money very rarely changes hands ,its all about helping each other because we can and have a real passion for what we do .Its better to share ones experience than sit at hiome and dream or watch the world tumble down around us .I like the story of the man who watchs another throw star fish back into the ocean after they have been washed up onto the beach .One by one he throws them back ,the man watching asks 'WHY BOTHER PUTTING THEM BACK ,YOU CANT SAVE THEM ALL .He replies at least i have tried and may save just one .
It sounds like me trying to save animals in run down zoos around the world .The look upon an animals face once its been released is humbling and wonderful (cant put a price on that ) It maybe one by one ,but its worth it .... Tony
