The purpose of this thread is to present some of the most valuable wildlife habitats that are under threat, and the efforts of individuals and organizations trying to save them.
Here are two WCS videos showing two rarely filmed wild places and their wildlife. For many such places in the tropics, this may be the first and last time they have been filmed:
Preah Vihear in northern Cambodia, lowland dry forest that has all but disappeared from neighbouring countries. Wildlife present: gaur, banteng, elephant, muntjac, wild boars... Problems: new road to Laos, wildlife poaching. Video:
Southern Sudan, Boma-Jonglei landscape. This is the scene of one of the most spectacular wildlife discoveries in decades: a wildlife migration on the scale of the Serengeti, but consisting not of wildebeest, but of possibly a million white-eared kob, was discovered in 2007, and efforts are now underway to protect this. Video:
