Plans for $83 million Blue Mountains Wildlife Park resurrected for Wentworth Falls

A company is proposing to build an $83 million wildlife park in Wentworth Falls.

The tourist attraction would include 5-star accommodation, a zip line, a toboggan track, high-ropes course, and exhibits for native and exotic animals.
Personally, I think there's already plenty of opportunity for tourists to see native and exotic animals in Sydney - not sure if there's really a need for another facility this close ?

I agree. There’s already ample zoos and wildlife parks in New South Wales.

Although labelling themselves as a wildlife park, the article gives the impression the species on show will be relatively low key (Dingo, Koala and penguins are mentioned) and will be there in support of the recreational activities (toboggan track and high ropes). Toboggan tracks are hugely popular in New Zealand, so I don’t doubt this proposed attraction will have similar appeal to the tourism market in NSW; but struggle to envisage anyone wanting to visit for the animals alone.

The native species may dissuade some international visitors from visiting from zoos and wildlife parks within the region they otherwise would have visited for the sole purpose of seeing a Koala etc.

Katoomba/the three sisters get over a million tourists every year. They are probably aiming to try and capture some of that, by the sounds of it they will combine a wildlife park with accomodation and rides. It could be a winning combo. When I lived up there the tourist busses were insane how they just turn up one after the other. There isnt much to do up there for tourists, once the main attractions are seen. So a park with rides may be something that would do well.
