(Once I'm done with this species list, I'm gonna do one for the Sequoia Park Zoo, which I visited yesterday.)

(First half of...) THE VILLAGE (Walking portion of the zoo; this section is free to guests)
  • Free-roaming Egyptian geese (Alopochen aegyptiaca) can be found all over "The Village"

A Couple Fun Facts About Winston's Wildlife Safari:
  • The zoo opened in October 1972 as World Wildlife Safari. "World" was dropped from the name in June 1974, at the request of the unrelated, non-profit World Wildlife Fund, to avoid confusion.
  • It is one of only a handful of privately-owned zoos accredited by the AZA.
  • It is home to Oregon's only African elephants.
  • The road on the drive-thru portion is 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) long.
  • It has proven invaluable to cheetah conservation. Wildlife Safari is the number two cheetah breeding facility on Earth and the number one breeding center outside of Africa. Over 200 cubs have been born here.
Would I Recommend It?
While I wouldn't recommend coming to Oregon to solely visit this zoo, if you happen to be in the area, make sure you stop by, you won't regret it.
 
Thank you for this, I didn't think to take photos of signs and could never get a good answer from them about species! Still don't know what owl they had, then. The border collie must be new.

I would if you love cheetahs ;) The extra cheetah stuff you can do is fantastic.
 
Interesting. I really liked Wildlife Safari when I went in the 1990s. It definitely wasn't as good as, say, SDZSP, but it was a very enjoyable experience nonetheless. In some ways it doesn't seem like it has changed a huge amount.

I can see it still has its geographic issues with animals, but the animals in the drive-through section, for the most part, have plenty of space.

It's good that the guanacos are in the American section though.

I also like that they keep nilgai, blackbuck, and yak. Three Asian species not as common in accredited zoos these days as they once were. I do wish that they had some more in the way of threatened Asian ungulates.

I also recall them having more African antelope species in the past. I think a species of gazelles would be a nice addition.

They also plan on expanding their elephant habitat: Elephant Expansion - Wildlife Safari

The exhibit has already been somewhat expanded. From what I've gathered from older pictures it used to just cover a dirt area but now they have an acre or two of grass to walk on. I would of taken a picture but I didn't think about it at the time.
