The wildlife world zoo somewhat in its entirety.
Very recently sometime this week I went to the Wildlife world zoo. Although not being as excited for the more developed phoenix zoo, I still had my hopes up, and it surely did not disappoint in diversity and amazement. Also I will post the species list sometime this upcoming week. For now i’m just showing highlights and the basic journey I took.
-Entrance
I started off my journey with the common entrance and saw some nice blue and gold parrots though I was somewhat worried about their well being. At least they arent like the parrots a few years back which were on uncomfortable branch’s while it was flooding.
The gift shops had some black and white cichlids which I believe are either frontoss or convicts. A few minnows were sprinkled around as well. There were black handed spider monkeys in the log flume ride. I went to see some primates (Red ruffed lemur, black white colobus, etc I will detail more in the species list later this week). Then I saw some unsigned finches (sad, I know though one was white with a long tail and red beak). After that i went to the monkey and apes area which had some happy and stressed gibbons though most seemed fine. The siamangs we’re doing their calls louder than ever being deafening but exciting.
-Mid area
I saw some nice animals such as llamas, parma wallaby I assume? Addra gazelles and some emus and eastern gray and red kangaroos in the kangaroo walkabout. Rainbow lorikeets called in the lord walkabout exhibit. A lonely singing dog from new guinea looked at us and followed us like a domesticated dog although i’m pretty sure they might be domesticated although again there is debate over this topic. Society and zebra finches flew in a cage that through a tunnel was connected to the other, a very nice feature for the birds. Dana gazelles and stanely crane were also majorly present. I saw 2 tortoises mating.
-American section
This section was the majorly theme park section, with 2 rides in sight, the parrot coaster and the giant coaster next to the llamas. There was also a yellow drop ride. The biggest highlights for me were the mexican alligator lizard, degu, porcupine (I didn’t see) southern flying squirrel, tamarins, and the grison tayra and the arctic fox that if an arctic fox was to be in arizona, somewhere like flagstaff would suit its needs better, as it’s colder. The snow was fake.
-Safari park
The aviary is still unfinished. Many people including me pet a giraffe. There were lions, many asian american and african birds, some asian animals, clouded leopards and pygmy hippos, koi and black spider monkeys, black mangabey who (to much dismay of me) showed off, the second instance of something crude since I saw those mating tortoises… There were red river hogs which I didn’t have to wait until november 22 for the phoenix zoo to get them, leopards, red ground hornbills, and lesser flamingos.
-AQUARIUM
The log flume ride was great, soaked me a lot. I also saw some african penguins, leopard sharks, garibaldi and kelplings, rainbow wrasse, lobster, red tailed hawk stuck to a branch, araiprima, and much more ill have to list another time.

Overall a 7/10 not because it’s bad but because it’s richness in species such as the bush baby and BETTONG? I was particularly excited for bettongs as they to my knowledge are the only of their kind in arizona, were in two exhibits on their own and with the bush babies. They were entertaining to say the least. Anyways, i’d say more of an 8.5/10 (definitely not because of the bettong) but a few small exhibits such as the gibbons and basically most of the birds (and that large crane that kept making loud noises at me akin to a mini thunder).

I’d recommend this zoo to a lot of people. Although the phoenix is better to me.

I am fairly confident however i will have to go off videos for river monsters other than the obvious araiprima and gar because I missed that, a lot of freshwater and saltwater species are missing, so basically i’m making a stepping stone for future zoochatters to build off me.
A species list for WW is ambitious, I look forward to it, they have so many different species in the collection.
I have the entire collection of mammals in the mammal house, primate area, most of the birds that are stupidly collected around the zoo, basically all of the reptile house, most of certain freshwater areas (HOWEVER it is very hard to photograph it all and list it all in one go) Plus a recounting of the siamangs, some critiques about small enclosures and the cons and pros in their entirety plus a review of the rides and other non zoo things, and a better review.

Phew, that was a mouthful. The wildlife world zoo seems and probably rivals the phoenix zoo (my 2nd favorite zoo behind SDZ and SDZSP although I have only gone to SDZ) in size and fun despite the repeat species in the zoo. The WWZ is quite the experience and if you want to see the only bettong in arizona and probably a few neighboring states if i’m correct then at all means come here, as well as small mammals, siamangs deafening your ears as a female gibbon avoids child support by swinging dangerously around with baby in hand, and other species in the aquarium (gosh, I wish they found a way to exhibit the planned marlin tuna and manatees)

Phew, another mouthful. That’s how big it is.

yeah, I find WW to be a completely full day zoo, one could make it a 1 1/2 day zoo if you took a little time. A full day was still rushed for me and we had to cut some parts. Phoenix zoo is nice, but still only a 1/2 day zoo for me, Predator Passage will add some time however. I like Phoenix zoo a lot, but if I had to chose between the two WW would be my choice.

I like the flow of the phoenix more than WW plus it’s more scenic as it’s in a canyon, has a proper rainforest area other than “Wildlife world safari park bird maze with a bunch of cages I have seen before other than a few species I haven’t”. And the singing dog is alone and the snow fox is in an (to me) unfitting space.

If you want rare species such as bettong, bush babies, or other species not commonly found around this state then Wildlife is for you.

That's a fair critique. Phoenix Zoo is really nicely done, albeit it is a fairly standard medium sized AZA zoo. The Arizona area is the most unique, and really well done IMO.

WW does suffer from animal repeat, a reflection of their breeding for sale efforts that help sustain the zoo (and how they started out). The flow could certainly be better, it is kind a relic from their haphazard expansion over the years. I don't care how they have south American animals in with the loosely African and American areas (spider monkeys everywhere). But the improvements over the years have really been well done. The "Safari Park" is quite nice and my favorite part of the zoo.

Is there any sort of order to this list? Species lists are best arranged either taxonomically or by how they are seen at the zoo (i.e. by section / house / etc, and labeled as being such).

Umm? Those are long extinct.
Oh, I wrote the species list when I was at the zoo. I was focused on other things and didn’t realize they were extinct, I probably meant common shelduck as they are present in the zoo.

I am going to do that once I look through photos and construct the final species list of everything I got to see. Up until the red and grey kangaroo, those were at the primate exhibits and bird exhibits you find if you go right going through the main entrance (and i’m pretty sure the other entrance is closed, seems trashed, old props and a tank with no animals in it)
After the emu the kangaroo section ends, and when we reach cuban amazon thats when the bird maze ends. reptile house starts until pancake tortoise, hyacinth macaw and those other birds until the toucanet are birds near the reptile house, and the tortoise is housed with the toucan in the house which allowed me to get some good photos. From the owl to the end were species from near the safari park. Next time when I add more species to the list which should be somewhat soon this week, i’ll organize it. For most of the houses I have a complete list so it’ll be easy but the bird mazes and the monkey mazes were hard as I just wanted to move on to the others, plus the heat despite a early morning discouraged me from taking photos of any animals i e already seen before causing me to miss a few species.
