Will the Capercaillie get extinct in Scotland for a second time ?

There does seem to be a problem with Pine Marten predation - perhaps. Although I do wonder if one of the problems might just be good old-fashioned inbreeding. Maybe another re-introduction from Scandinavia should be contemplated.

As I read it, there is concern only over the Southern Scottish population centred on the Trossachs and Loch Lomond where very few birds are left. It says over 80% of Scottish Capers are now in the Cairngorms and that population is stable.

Some years ago I went looking for Capers on Deeside in an area renowned for them- but even during the Leck in April, they were nowhere to be found. I did see them elsewhere, including one of those 'crazy' displaying males that occur sometimes with no apparent fear of Humans. He was completely engrossed in his displays but would rush to the attack if you approached. After fending him off repeatedly I discovered that if you stood just outside the invisible boundary of his territory, he would still challenge, but not attack.
