On March 8th, it was reported that the USDA fined the facility $8,000 after multiple critical violations were found, including an incident in early February 2020, when it followed through on a bizarre euthanization of a (0.0.1) llama by dropping the live animal in a burial hole and crushing its skull with an excavator bucket. Other violations include inadequate fencing (which during an inspection a kangaroo named Perth jumped over a 5-foot fence and escaped for 2 days), camels and goats weren't provided with necessary shade and structure, children were permitted to climb fences to get closer to the camels without staff around, and an incident involving (0.1.2) elands escaping their enclosure, which facility personnel tried to use tranquilizer darts that led to the female eland being spooked into running into a fence post and breaking its neck, passing away shortly after.
Also on March 8th, the facility responded, saying they have fired the employee who was using the excavator during the llama's death and has been cooperating with the USDA by paying the $8,000. They also claim during the past 4 inspections they have received 0 violations.
