lots of images

This is a very good fansite, with many pics and maps.

I watched the Omen recentley, which includes a scene at Windsor, most notably the 'Crazy Baboons' where they all attack the car with Damien inside. Strangely, a keeper was killed by a lion the day after the film crews left.

I don't think there was a keeper killed by a Lion at Windsor. Certainly one by a tiger, but not a Lion.

Must've been a wikipedia mistake. Allegedly part of a 'curse' surrounding the filming of The Omen.

If anyone's interested in what happend to the animals then this is quite a good read

I visited Windsor, although I can't remember exactly when it was probably towards the end of the 1970s. I don't remember much about it either, other than the killer whale and dolphin show, for which some car stickers are still knocking around in my collection... somewhere.

Not long before they closed a very expensive-looking enclosure was built for their herd of youg African elephants , which included a bull . I believe they all went to Knowsley when Windsor closed , though several have since died .

I purchased this book from amazon today ( there was a massive variance in price from £6 to £68!). I'm really looking forward to reading it. I adopt Jestah a chimp at Monkeyworld who came from Windsor.

What did you think of it?

Animals Came Out Two by Two: Final Days of Windsor Safari Park: Amazon.co.uk: David Taylor: Books
I did not know about this book until reading about it on Zoo Chat, I recently acquired a copy of it and very good it is too. Six hundred animals in need of re homing and all were apart from three deer which died, not bad 99.5% of the animals successfully relocated, of coarse enormously helped by the £5 million dowry made available by the receivers to assist with this enormous task,There were of coarse a few rogues who tried to get in on the act, or should I say tried to get their hands on the dowry cash, thankfully David Taylor knew who most of them were so their plans were unsuccessful, the worst was in my opinion a well known British circus personality who contacted David Taylor enquiring how he proposed to dispose of the problematic animals, i.e. lions, bears, baboons. This person suggested that David Taylor should inform the keepers that the animals were being re homed at a zoo abroad so they would not be able to afford to go and check on them, this circus person would then turn up with his animal transport, load them up, drive down to the lay by at Bagshot, blast the lot with his twelve bore rifle, nobody would be none the wiser and he would only charge £1,000 per lorry load, needless to say this person was given the sharp end of Mr. Taylor's tongue and fortunately all the lions, including two elderly lionesses, bears and baboons were found new homes, twenty years later I think I am correct in stating that some of the elephants are still at Knowsley and the chimps are still at Monkey World, Dorset.

I visited Windsor Safari Park only once, as a very small child, with my mum in about 1970. I will always regret not going back there. I wish I had seen how it developed in later years. Does anyone have a fridge magnet of Windsor Safari Park? My mum collects fridge magnets of places she once visited, but she hasn't got one of this, the first coach trip she organised.

I don't think there was a keeper killed by a Lion at Windsor. Certainly one by a tiger, but not a Lion.
I was told a keeper was killed by a Tiger called Rajah and another keeper was injured soon after by the same tiger! Rajah's sired two cubs , Santa and Claus (They were born at Xmas) and Claus was just like his father, stalked keepers all the time!

Final 1992 Stocklist

Windsor Safari Park was sadly before my time (I later went to Legoland as a kid on the same site), but I’ve heard lots about it through my family and read an interesting story in a compilation of British zoos book about their dolphin pod and their recent births.

I came across this page which lists their 1992 stock list prior to closure, for those that are interested: 1992 STOCKLIST at Windsor Safari Park
