WEST MIDLANDS SAFARI PARK (17 – 08 – 2010 (12.30PM)
This was a much more improved visit as the park was in much better condition and as you will read that the animals were out in there hundreds as last time they seemed to be the odd few of some species and none of others.
As we drove into the first section unfortunately the animals were all up at the top of the section this was a little disappointing as you had to wait to drive through 2 thirds of the park to see them.
We then entered the second section this was much better as you had the Wallabies out in force they were everywhere you had to be careful were you were driving the young ones from my first visit had now grown into roughly the same size as their parents thus making it hard to spot them.
As we entered the area were one of my favourite animals were being kept to my surprise they had quite a few of the Timberland Wolf out in the enclosure including to very young active ones , it was a brilliant experience to see the wolves actually moving around and acting like a natural family group instead of just lying around.
As we entered the Lions area I was a little apprehensive about whether we would see the African Lions moving around as it was now close to 1.45pm, by this time normally they would all be lying around.
What a surprise I got when over half the pride were moving and running in some cases around there enclosure, the ones running were actually chasing the Blackbucks in another enclosure (They were separated by a wired fence)
The White Lions on the other hand were just lying around but in full view of the general public (which is what the public want) making it easy to get photographs of them
The same could be said for the Cheaters this makes it very enjoyable for the family day out shoot and click photographer who just wants to have a souvenir for the family album.
I also loved how many of the parks Deer were out there were hundreds of them virtually all the species were out on show making this a very special visit for me as I love anything like this to see a park full of animals that you need not have your car windows closed for makes it a little special as you can appreciate the animals much more (And no we didn’t feed the animals as they approached the car).
The Indian Rhino were out and very close to the cars (Even though there was a electric fence between them and the cars) The size of these animals close up is very intimidating and gosh they look very powerful animals indeed the way the powerful movement is exaggerated by the outer skin (amour as some people call it) makes you realise these are very dangerous animals and not to be taken lightly.
On the downside there were too many people for my liking feeding the animals from inside their cars this again could be dangerous to the people in the cars as well as the diet of the animal.
On to the walk about part of the park this again was very crowded and you had to take your time to get to certain places.
The seal enclosure seems a little small to me don’t know if there are any under water areas were the public can’t see but the glass panel viewing area was very clean and you could see into the enclosure very easily.
The Seal and Sea Lion display is very well presented and entertaining a gain the pool is a little small for my liking but the way the staff presented the display was very informative and educational for the children, this display lasts about 10 minutes but it’s free.
The Amur Leopards well we’ve all talked about the glass box so I won’t go on.
The reptile house this is very well presented and it has some new snakes for me and my favourite reptiles of all the Crocodiles and Alligators were in beautiful views as you can see by some of my photographs. They also have some very large snakes ranging from vipers to anacondas and pythons.
They also have other reptiles from frogs to lizards these are also very well presented and the enclosures are very well planted and the signage around the reptile house is very informative on all the species they have with in it
Twilight Zone this I must say was the only let down around the park lack
of information and animals this is all I will say on the matter
Hippopotamus Lake this was one of the high lights for me as the Hippopotamus were very active in the water, the only drawback was the smell coming from the water this I know can’t be helped but it was a little off putting
