It's the 50th Anniversary of Woburn Safari Park Days out in Bedfordshire just got bigger as Woburn Safari Park turns 50 years old in 2020!
We went to woeburn a week ago and 5x we did the drive through safari and not once did we see a zebra so I did wonder myself, as they were usually kept close to the giraffe but this time no signDoes anyone know what happened to the Chapman's Zebra as I looked on the website it's taken off for a reason ?
I wondered that but I don’t think woeburn are that concerned by it! They seem content with their herd and a very compliant male, so expanding the herd isn’t a priorityWhats happening with their elephant herd I believe only one young has been bred to date?
I had read a few years ago that they wanted to form a breeding herd and expand it, also I believe that was the main reason they built the new elephant barn!I wondered that but I don’t think woeburn are that concerned by it! Well I did remember seeing the Chapman's Zebra mixing with the Rhinos, Eland and other animalsWe went to woeburn a week ago and 5x we did the drive through safari and not once did we see a zebra so I did wonder myself, as they were usually kept close to the giraffe but this time no sign

I see and they did mix with the Gemsbok aswellThey once had a pretty large herd of chapman’s zebra, 6 or more with the rhinos/elands, however last time I was there, there were only 2 individuals kept in separate paddock with a pair of scimitar horned oryx (not the main herd of this species, seemed surplus) just before the safari park entrance. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’d gone/died out because I believe they’re concentrating on the grévy’s zebra. The grévy’s are kept next to/with the giraffe, and I believe they’re housed in the ‘African Ungulate Conservation Centre’ along with species like Addax/Bongo etc. The chapman’s have never been held in the conservation centre or the giraffe paddock which the grévy’s were in last time, with scimitars.
