Been a minute since I last visited the Zoo and was able to stop by the other day for a walk-around before I head to San Diego at the end of the week. Surprisingly, there have been a lot of mix-ups with the smaller species (most notably, in the Tropical Rainforest, Reptile Realm, and the Aviaries) that are new since my last visit.
  • Species in Green are those present on exhibit, but not signed
  • Species in Red are those that are signed, but we're no shows / off exhibit

  • Kunekune Pigs (Small breed of domestic pig from New Zealand)
  • Domestic Chickens
  • Kinder Goats
  • African Pygmy Goats
  • Flemish Giant Rabbit

Helmeted Guineafowl (Numida meleagris) (I've never seen them before, but if they're like the Ostriches, then they probably hang out a lot in the back, where it's hard to view)

I don't get why zoos keep trying to include guineas in African savannah exhibits. Yes they fit the theme and they're good for pest control but they're often difficult for visitors to see and for keepers manage them effectively. Lot of times they just get picked off one by one by local predators.

Patas Monkeys (Erythrocebus patas) (Currently empty as their last Patas monkey passed away a while ago. They're currently looking for a new troop)

Hopefully they'll be able to find some, not too many Patas around still.

  • Chilean Flamingos (Phoenicopterus chilensis)
  • Nene Geese (Branta sandvicensis) (Maybe someone else who knows a lot more about birds than I do can chime in, but I thought this mix was quite odd)

I've seen Branta with flamingos before, I think it usually works unless you have an aggressive breeding pair of geese. Long as the Geese aren't chasing the flamingos around and risking trip/collision injury to the gangly birds, not really any issues. Definitely a mix that bears keeping an eye on though.

Hopefully they'll be able to find some, not too many Patas around still.
All of their signage and information was still up, but its clear they haven't really manicured the exhibit since a lot of grass and weeds are overgrown at the moment. No clue where they can aquire new Patas but they're set on it which is nice.
I'd really like to see what they'll do with this empty watering hole exhibit that's next to the old Hippo exhibit since its much smaller. Could see some kind of water fowl going here in the near future (unless they want to wait for the inevitable African Savanna renovation)

The Patas are in, currently behind the scenes doing introductions. 3 animals joined the resident female.
