Chester Zoo Work Placement at Chester Zoo!

Hi everyone, I'm a new member :)
I got a phonecall from Chester Zoo today, I've got an interview for a 3 month work experience placement :p
I'm terrified I won't get it - I'm determined to be a zoo keeper and I need the experience in a proper wildlife park! I know the competition is immense so I'm so pleased I've even reached the interview stage. Luckily, I only live about a 15 min drive from the zoo. As excited as I am, I'm really really nervous for my interview which is on Wed 5th.
Has anyone else here ever done work experience at Chester? Does anyone have any advice?
I'll keep everyone updated if people are interested in how it goes.
x

Good luck! Then again, to get to the interview stage, you must already have some.

Well done for the interview, hard to even get those these days. What section is it for?

I don't know what section it's for at the moment. I put on my application form that I would prefer carnivores or African species (as I'm hoping to volunteer in Africa next year so would like to link up my experiences) but I understand it's not guaranteed, I don't really know how they assign students to sections, but I imagine with so much interest you don't necessarily get what you asked for. There's such a lot of choice too :D

Do you ave to be on a college or university course to apply for work experience, i would love to do work experience but how do you support yourself if your doing unpaid work.

I think it's different at every zoo but you can usually find their conditions on their websites. I think you just need to make sure you save up enough money in advance to support yourself whilst unpaid, that's what I'm going to be doing. I live at home so it's a bit easier.
