World cup mascot : Three-banded armadilo

As an avid World Cup fan (usually watching all 64 matches) I was pleasantly surprised that an armadillo was chosen as the official mascot for the tournament in Brazil. My first guess would have been a jaguar, but the last World Cup (in South Africa) had a leopard as mascot so that nixed that idea. A giant anteater could have been a possibility, and a spectacled bear would have been interesting...but I have no qualms with the choice of armadillo.
