I do hope they get in touch with some of the aquarist specialist zoos maintaining threatened fish species. This calls for an ex situ program and I am really unsure whether locally they could replicated the peat swamp acidic conditions required for the fish to proliferate.

Whereas the Paedocypris complex is widely traded in aquarium trade and also impacts species P. micromegentes (Malaysia) and P. progenitica (Indonesia). Curiously, here Singapore seems to be a trading hub where it is traded as ruby rasbora. Singapore Zoo get involved?

I also hope the renowned ichthyologist Dr. Zahar Azuar Zakaria will find a willing ear on part of the Government and administrative authorities for conserving the Bukit Bauk forest as a reserve. It is really also time the palm oil industry takes on its environmentally role as it has been responsible for getting the population in Kemaman extinct by water run offs (de-acidifying that location and destroying the fish habitat completely).
