Yorkshire Wildlife Park Yorkshire Wildlife Park New arrivals

I see mention in the collection plan of the research project with the lechwe which is already underway. I don't know how many they have currently but it's more than 20 and I think some are pregnant (or were recently)

I can't get all the info you guys seem to be getting?

Finally got it. Looks impressive although anyone else spot the fact at the top of their Black Rhino page they have picture of a pair of whites?

Chizlit raccoon dogs are rare in zoos however are becoming a fairly common exotic pet here in the UK. I've seen them advertised on plenty of occasions at around the £300-£500. It seems odd that they are rare in UK zoos given that they are easily available to the public after a little research.[/QUOTE]

I had a look at what I could find, and saw a 'delightful' site called Foxy Tails, amongst the products available are indeed raccoon dogs, their tails and fur, and also other products including coyote tails, charming, I'm sure it's all legal, but for the life of me cant see why it should be, and I wonder what kind of people would even consider buying products that are from such a cruel source.

Sorry it's off topic, but I just had to say something.

It's interesting to note that according to the plan, raccoon dogs are a phase out species and are basically left overs from the previous establishment at the site.

EDIT: sorry just realised I am repeating Chizlit. I like these animals too, I would have thought they would be a good option for smaller collections (I guess like this one http://www.zoochat.com/1575/raccoon-dog-enclosure-16-10-2011-a-241163/ ) looking for something easy to source that is cute and fluffy and rather unusual.
