Just a little bit of fun:

What gifts did you receive that might be of interest to the forum?

I'll start obviously:

I got 'The Aye-aye and I', by Gerald Durrell. Growing up we had a lot of Durrell in the house and although I came to it slightly late, when I did I must have gone through all of the books several times over in about two years . Then I moved on to the library (or libraries) and read all the ones there too. After that I pretty much petered out and never really went to the effort of tracking down the last few when I was old enough to do so financially. 'The Aye-aye and I' is one where I'm not sure whether I read it or not; we certainly didn't have it at home (although as I write this I'm starting to suspect that I have read it). In any case I haven't read any Durrell for a long time so it'll be a real delight.
 
I got a gift certificate to the Andrew Isles Natural History Bookshop from the staff, which was really nice. I was also given a lot of alcohol, probably so I can de-stress after a day at work. Definitely zoo related.
 
My sister gave me a coloured biro portrait of one of my Amazonian poison frogs (Ranitomeya amazonica) which she had drawn.
I was also given 'A Field Guide to the Tracks and Signs of Southern and East African Wildlife' and some cash ahead of my trip to South Africa next month. :)

Perhaps surprisingly, I came to the writing of Durrell very late; perhaps only five years ago or thereabouts!

I actually already owned the first two :p:oops: but it means a LOT more to me that my brother knows me so well!
 
The best thing I received was a painting of a resplendent quetzal that was done on the feather of a resplendent quetzal. My family knows me well!

My recent trip to Texas is also considered a large portion of my presents. Beyond that, I received some photography gear.

Wow! Do you have a picture? I collect feathers and also have painted some, I´d love to see it.
 
I got the Wimmelbuch book of Tiergarten Schönbrunn. This is the sixth of these fantastic books I have and I fear I'm getting close to the tipping point where I get obsessively completist.:eek:

My dad also paid for all of my rolls of film to get developed, which mostly had zoo photos (the rest were photos from dog shows and a sheep festival lol).

My mom gave me a notebook and a pen with penguins on them and a large coin pouch type thing with otters.
 
I got "My family and other animals" by Gerald Durrell. The Corfu trilogy was still missing from my collection, but as I got one of Durrell's book every time for the last few years this was bound to happen.

I also got a great mug with Red knots on it.
 
None of my family would dream of giving me anything animal-related; they know very little about animals and they also know that I have far too much animal-related stuff already. But as I was shopping on Amazon I noticed that 40 Years of Evolution by Peter & Rosemary Grant was on special offer. I have long been fascinated by their long-term work on Darwin's finches on the little island of Daphne Major. So I treated myself :)

And regarding the topic, no animal-related gifts for me. But I got an Amethyst geoda, what was pretty cool too.
