G’day All,
Here is a bit of Metro Toronto Zoo history that not many may know about!
• The present location of the Toronto Zoo was only one of three locations! Anyone know where the other two were?
• Back in ’76, the Director at the time was offered a male Giant panda from an animal dealer, for the cost of $500,000.00. We even sent over to the Peking Zoo one of the two male Sumatran Orangs we had towards the deal. Unfortunately there was a lot of problems going on and the Director quit, the deal was cancelled and the trio of Chimps that were being housed in Valley Halla (with the director and his wife) were moved to the Health Unit and then sold to the Zoo in Trinidad!
Happy Days
