Zoo Idaho Zoo Idaho News

Since this hasn't been updated in 3 years, I am just gonna post the important news from 2017, '18, and '19, and 2020.

On April 2nd, 2017, the zoo opened for the season which had a public debut of a pronghorn, mule deer, bobcat, red fox, and bull elk. The mammals were brought over from Idaho Fish and Game. The zoo also plans this year to finish the zoo's entrance, rebuilding the bison, pronghorn, and elk enclosures, as well as preparing to build the wetlands section of the zoo.

On July 3rd, 2018, a wild black bear got onto zoo grounds and was the first black bear known to have entered Pocatello since it's inception. How the bear got there remains a mystery, and was thought to be an escaped bear, until the bear was found outside the cougar enclosure. The bear then went 70 feet up a ponderosa pine tree and waited for 3 hours until Idaho Fish and Game humanly captured the bear.

I mentioned this in the New Zoo Books thread, but I know that loads of times not everyone follows that part of ZooChat. Therefore, I will repeat it here. Zoo Idaho: Where Every Animal Has a Story (multiple authors, 2024) was published last month. I visited this zoo in 2012 and it was known as Pocatello Zoo back then.
