Also people on the internet are accusing the zoo of killing Josephine and spreading anger against the zoo since she was the grandmother of Harambe. The Harmabe memes people are getting really, really old and their arguments show little knowledge of animals in zoos.
Looks like gorillas will be phased out of Zoo Miami. I wonder if and when they will return. Trump is planning to kill the NEA, cut loose PBS and NPR
Is this a sign that the Harambe saga has significantly impacted the anti-zoo sentiment or not?
Yes they even say they plan to have gorillas again. The question is if they'll put a new troop in the current habitat or build a new facility (my hope.) More what I meant about the Harambe question is how relevant it is to the anti-zoo debate and if it has made that sentiment more mainstream in a significant way.No. That article doesn't even say that they are phasing them out officially, just that they are moving the lone gorilla somewhere else. My guess is that either they'll bring in a new group or that they'll use the exhibit for something else.
Also, the article only mentions Harambe because Josephine was Harambe's grandmother, so it's noteworthy. It didn't say that Miami was reconsidering their commitment to gorillas or bowing to public pressure at all, I think it's mostly or entirely unrelated to that debacle.
