Zoo News Threads: Yearly or a Single Thread?

Question: What determines if a zoo gets a single news thread, or a new one each year? In the US forum it appears there are some of both. Some of the institutions with a yearly thread (e.g., Buffalo Zoo) don't get much attention on ZooChat and may be better suited for a single thread, while there are other zoos that get a fair bit of attention and only have one thread (e.g., Nashville, Oklahoma City, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Georgia Aquarium), but may be more suited for multiple. While I don't think there's a problem with either approach, I was just wondering if there was any reason behind the decision versus just being whatever threads people create. I do think some consistency in this would be appreciated, as this could make it easier for people to find the information they wish to find.

I usually follow the status quo when posting news. If a facility got a 2023 news thread and was several pages long, then I see no harm in it getting a 2024 one. Alternatively if news has been posted for the last decade in a thread that’s only two pages long, I add to that. It’s really a case by case basis where you apply your best judgement and accept the splitting/merging of your thread by the mods in the event you misjudged.
If a facility has received new threads every year, but are normally no longer than a page or two, is there a way to go back to just a single news thread? Likewise, when should the decision be made to no longer keep adding to the same news thread. There are a few in the US forum that are quite long, but are the only ones for their respective facilities.

I created a 2024 news thread for Kansas City Zoo because the main thread was 21 pages long and getting hard to keep up with, its a large zoo especially with the aquarium addition and its also in a large midwest city, but it was merged. I would like to know what the rules are as well.

A few zoos like Beardsley, Erie and Reid Park are much smaller in size and in much smaller, less notable cities yet they have yearly news threads (none longer than a few pages, if even).

Agreed, Kansas City is one of the notable zoos I noticed with a single, very large thread. It definitely doesn't seem like a single thread does justice to a very prominent facility which gets a lot of attention, while on the contrary having more threads than necessary for smaller facilities seems to make the forum more difficult to navigate.

It's basically to do with how much news is posted over each year period (over an average, so there may be some year threads - especially with covid slowing things down - with little content just because that year was lean). Zoos which had a lot of news each year have been split into years, while zoos which did not have much each year have been left as single threads.

If a zoo already has year threads then a new thread will be started each year (hence varying lengths). If there isn't a year thread for that zoo then post in the general news thread - if it is deemed necessary to split it then we will.
