Some recent news:

The new additional area of the zoo of 1,5 hectares, featuring hardy Asian animals, was opened at 26June. Not all new enclosures are filled with animals yet.
What is there now to see - Persian gazella, souslik, Amur tiger (male Oliver from Dvur Kralove), wolverine (female Nalka came yesterday from Cotswold), golden eagle, Egyptian vulture, demoiselle crane, European pond turtle, grass snake, Hermann's tortoise, dice snake...
What enclosures are still vacant - brown bears, chamois, marmot, corsac fox, some reptile teraria.

Spring offspring includes mostly birds - +6 greater flamingos, 3 great white pelicans, 3? black storks, 4 gray partridges, 2 garganeys, 1 European wild cat, 2 cattas, 2 cotton-top tamarins, night herons, black-headed gulls, Eurasian spoonbills, Luzon bleeding-heart etc.
 
Chinese alligators are finally kept in an exhibition pen, and not backstage any longer. You can see a pair in the newly build terrarium house for temperate reptile species.
 
The zoo received a male Himalayan brown bear (Ursus arctos isabellinus) from Jekaterinburg zoo in Russia. They still search for a female.
 
European otters have one pup, it´s a male born 2 months ago. It´s the first time this species bred at this zoo after decades. Mother takes its pup already out of their sleeping den so it´s visible to public.

Ohrada zoo runs a separate rescue station for wild animals at dorf Rozov u Temelína, they accept every animal in need, be it tiny finch or a wolf or a moose. Usually it´s not open to public but they do some open days I think. They receive orphaned or injured otters often, South Bohemia has a vital population of them.

The European wolf pair at the zoo has two pups, both are females and 2 months old. I don´t know sex of corsak fox twins.

Greater flamingos have plenty of chicks, usually, their flock produces around 30 chicks a year. White pelicans have just 1 chick. European cranes have 2 chicks.
 
Due to heavy wet snow the whole country experiences, one walk-though aviary for waterfowl collapsed. The smaller one behind flamingo aviary. No injuries to people or animals.
 
That watter bird aviary that collapsed in winter has been built again and looks exactly the same.

The old owl aviary complex that had to be demolished last year due to end of life of its wooden structure, will be rebuilt with almost exact design, but from more durable material.

The planned construction of night animal pavilion has been cancelled, corona crisis and inflation of construction work prices has made it too expensive. The zoo is looking for some cheap solution for that empty space.

Golden Eagle pair has one chick, 3 weeks old. It´s the first surviving chick since the eagle aviary was built ca 8 years ago.

Several West African mud turtles hatched. I know it´s very common species without any conservation value, but I still like it.

Greater flamingo chicks are hatching, much later (2 months) than other years. Cold and rainy spring has disturbed most zoo flamingo flocks here and many don´t show any tendency to breed this year at all. The flock has 113 birds now, and bred 267 chicks since year 2001. In video on YT the keeper mentions some young birds has been sent to Niznij Novgorod/Russia.
 
Amur tiger Altaica has a litter of 2 cubs born earlier this month. Father is the same like last time (Oliver).

European river otter female Jaruš has a litter of 2 cubs born in May.

Female of Dwarf caiman has laid 19 eggs that have been moved into an incubator box.

The Souslik exhibit is abound by circa 40 youngsters - those will be released to wild nature during summer to support endagnered local populations.

Greater flamingo group had a weaker season with just 20 chicks hatched.

Blackbuck herd has 3 spring babies.

European wolves have a litter of 4 cubs.

Alpine chamois herd has one youngster born in May.
 
The last Balkan brown bear Dick has died late last year (his brother Ben died a year earlier) and its cage is empty.

The zoo seems to lack money seriously. That demolition place where owl aviaries used to stand, still contains some heaps of old material and is fenced off. Nobody cleaned it over period of 2 years. A sore spot in the middle of this small zoo.

I had my first view of Morne Constant anole (Anolis ferreus) in one tank inside the Matamata pavilion.

The Amur tiger kittens are a male and a female and they still don´t have names.
 
Common crane pair has 2 chicks like every spring. You can find their aviary just behind Vietnamese sika deer bachelor herd enclosure. (FB)

Greater white pelicans have 2 chicks.

Souslik colony has many spring cubs, part of them got rewilded at local sport airport in Strakonice.

In oposite direction came an adult male Cape barren goose. He got discovered running free between highrise housing at town Strakonice. Local police staff spent 3 days to catch him till they succeeded and then he was handed over to the zoo because no owner was found.

Carpathian lynx has 3 cubs.

Golden eagle pair has 2 half-grown chicks at nest.
