For a 50-km radius...
  • Minnesota Zoo. Visit frequently, am a member. My favorite local zoo.
  • Sea Life Minnesota Aquarium at the Mall of America. Have visited, but not since pre-covid. I recall enjoying it but it's not one of my faves. One of the only aquariums around, really.
  • Richardson Nature Center - Went to a birthday party here once over a decade ago. I liked it but would not call it a zoo... I think they have some basic wildlife on display/for interaction? Some rehab? Wouldn't call it a zoo
  • Wood Lake Nature Center - Haven't been. They have live fish, salamanders, turtles, and snakes. Sounds like a nature museum with some critters.
  • Gabbert Raptor Center - this is a raptor rehab facility that does raptor encounters but really is not a zoo. They mostly do outreach work. A great facility... not a zoo. Starting to sound like Disney's Animal Kingdom lol (Nahtazu)
  • Como Park Zoo and Conservatory - Finally a proper zoo! Yes I've been here and I really enjoy it. I like their animal collection more than the Minnesota Zoo but I'm a great ape fan so I'm biased. It's more out of the way (and parking sucks) but I enjoy it.
  • Bell Museum - have not visited, have meant to for ages. see nahtazu comments
  • Snake Discovery: A Reptile Experience - haven't been, didn't even know it existed. They do reptile surrenders and adoptions, so... yay for that? I think I like that? idk on the whole when i see reptile-exclusive places i get a little nervy
  • Roseville Seaquest - i have not been and will not go. idk if it's been discussed on here much but locally this is a famously nightmarish facility with horrible husbandry and extremely mistreated animals.
  • Sustainable Safari - haven't been and don't really plan on going. encounter-focused facilities kind of eek me out a little. and i say this as someone who did the encounter with belugas at Shedd! I think there's a big difference between "We're an accredited facility that offers some animal encounters" and "We are a facility FOR animal encounters" if that makes sense.

Yay I got 5 facilities!
11 km- Reptarium
30km- Detroit Zoo
32 km- Sea Life Michigan
38 km- Belle Isle Nature Center
38km - Belle Isle Aquarium

Most of these, I haven't heard about but I visit Franklin, science museum, the new England aquarium, stone, and Roger Williams every year. Hopefully I'll visit southwicks zoo annually. I'm going to go to Capron when they get some new interesting species because they are keeping on losing more and more

I live in Brugge, Belgium. There are 14 locations in a 50 km radius
Closest location to me is Boudewijn Seapark, the park would best be described as Seaworld ordered from Temu... I used to have a subcription to the park as a kid but it's been deteriorating ever since, to the point they only have 4 species left currently :(

Nally's Papegaaienopvang: a sanctuary for parrots who were pets but have been neglected/ were illegally obtained etc, never visited (yet)

Sea Life Blankenberge: i used to visit the aquarium a lot but it's in recent years been really focusing on kids so i haven't visited in a few years.

Dierenpark Wenduine: small children's farm, haven't visited

't Kakelend Kippenmuseum: they have a huge domestic collection and some exotic species like porcupine and wallabies, but nothing big

Flamingo Farm: I have never even heard of this place before...

Kinderboerderij De Lenspolder: children's farm, never visited

Reptilienzoo Iguana (typo??): some terraria with reptiles, haven't visited

De Zonnegloed: They call themselves a "sanctuary" for animals...basically a zoo without breeding programs

Bellewaerdepark: An attraction park and zoo in one, they have some big animals like giraffes, bison, tigers and lions, but they are more of an attraction park, visited

Terra Maris: never heard of before...

Plopsaland De Panne: basically an attraction park, they only have domesticated species

Levend erfgoedpark Wachtebeke: i always visit this when going to the nearby Puyenbroeck park, they keep lots of rare domestic species

Familiepark Harry Malter: a circus that has settled down and redeveloped as a small park, they have some smaller species, but their collection seems to be growing, visited

I also remember an ostrich farm being nearby, but that isn't listed on ZTL apperently
