MURRAYLANDS residents can get set for a three-night, two-day music and arts festival “Live at the Zoo”, planned for the Monarto Zoo over the Easter long weekend.

The event will use about 200 acres of the zoo’s new Serengeti Plain, with headline acts from across the country expected to play.

Avalon Events event producer Hal Royce said the festival’s benefits for the region would be endless.

“(South Australia) is the Festival State and you all deserve it,” he said.

“The zoo, contractors and everyone else have been so cooperative and eager to be a part of this incredible multi-day music and arts festival.”

“Top rock and hip-hop bands, 500 hectares to play on, there’s plenty of excuses to be an animal on the weekend.”

More than 4000 people are expected to attend the event, which will offer onsite camping.

The event is aimed to be as “green” as possible and to show care and preservation to the natural environment, animals and endangered species.

A donation will be made to the zoo from every ticket sold.

Mr Royce said the organisers, Avalon Events, planned to use local organisations, businesses, contractors and many individuals as workers and vendors.

“The region’s people are part of the festival, which takes on a unique and welcoming personality,” he said.

“On April 11 and 12, Monarto will be the place to rock.”
