Zoo Trips

I´ve been thinking, and i would be very happy if someone could help me with this.
The main purpose is to make a list with Zoo Trips for a town/state/country, but with a limited time of 3 days to visit.

I can start with Europe.

Berlin - Germany
- Berlin Tierpark
- Berlin Zoo and Aquarium

Home to unique animals, both zoos are world class. Berlin Zoo and Aquarium has the biggest collection of animals species in a Zoo, and Tierpark is the biggest city Zoo. Highlights include 7 species of Bears, (between the two, they had 8, but Bao Bao died some days ago) 4 species of hyenas, kiwi, tuatara and many more.

Time to visit: 2-3 days

Madrid - Spain
- Madrid Zoo and Aquarium
- Faunia

The first is often forgotten because of concrete and bad enclousures, but the zoo is leaving that past and building new (better) enclousures. Rarest Species on exhibit include Giant Pandas, Koalas, Spanish Ibex and in September arrive the Giant Otters. Not many people know Faunia, but it has one of the best collections for small mammals, and most of them aren´t that common. Grey Brocket Deer, Antillean Manatee, Naked Mole Rat and many more.

Time to visit: 1-2 days

Lisbon - Portugal
- Lisbon Zoo
- Lisbon Oceanarium

Since 2007, the Lisbon Zoo is renovating his enclousures, and more will follow. The collection includes Clouded Leopards, 3 species of Tigers, Angolan Giraffes, Koalas and Okapis.
Other main attraction is the Oceanarium. Devil Ray, Sun Fish, Sea Otters, Macaroni and Magellanic Penguins, and over 20 species of Sharks are the main attractions.

Time to visit: 1-2 days

Avintes - Portugal
- Zoo Santo Inácio
- Parque Biológico de Gaia

Both unknown to most Zoochat members, both new. Zoo Santo Inácio made 10 years some months ago, and already owns an incredible collection (350 species), even if it doesn´t have one of the largest animals, Pigmy Hippo, Margay, African Wild Dog, Indian Muntjak, Philipine Spotted Deer, Tonkean Macaque, Black-Faced Spider Monkey, Black-Checked Red-Tail Monkey, Somali Wild Ass, Radiated Tortoise, Bear Macaque and an amazing collection of birds, including Iberian Golden Eagle, Osprey and many more.
Parque Biológico de Gaia focuses on native portuguese animals, with over 150 species. Mostly are of the Iberian Subspecies, including Wild Boar, Ibex, Red Deer and some common species in Portugal, but not in the rest of Europe, like Egyptian mongoose and a great amount of sea birds (gannets, avocets...). It also works as a rescue center, from injured birds of prey to rescued macaws, racoons and even wildboar!

Time to visit: 1-2 days

Hope i helped like it is helping me! :p
And please give more suggestions.

If travel costs were no barrier, I reckon a good three to represent the UK would be Chester, Edinburgh and London. Between them, this would get you the following species of particular note amongst many others (species in bold are currently offshow, but listing them helps to indicate the range of the collections)

Sudanese Cheetah, Asiatic Golden Cat, Margay, Narrow-Striped Boky, Binturong, Aardwolf, Marbled Polecat, Kinkajou, Wolverine, Amur Leopard, Jaguar, Asiatic Lion, Giant Panda, Sun Bear, Spectacled Bear, Javan Banteng, Okapi, Pygmy Hippo, Onager, Lesser Kudu, Queensland Koala, Red Slender Loris, Potto, Moholi Bushbaby, Hamlyn's Monkey, Aye-Aye, Sumatran Orang, Bornean Orang, Western Lowland Gorilla

Thanks for the sugestion! I have already been in London, but didn´t visited the zoo.
That´s a very interesting species list, and i would love to do it!

I always feel lucky to live in Melbourne because I'm a Zoos Victoria member and get to visit three incredible zoos that are within an hours drive from my house as many times as I want.
Melbourne Zoo: I always took it for granted that this is how a zoo should be but now that I've seen zoos overseas it's made me realise that I have a world class zoo, with some of the most incredible exhibitry, right here on my doorstep.
Werribee Open Range Zoo: The most realistic immersion that I've experienced as well as one of the all time greatest savannah exhibits.
Healesville Sanctuary: A must visit for any foreign tourist in Melbourne because of the wide variety of native species in such a natural location.

Very good idea filopinos, i have been to Portogul several times and only visited the now closed park near Monique in the Algarve.
There are two zoos in Dublin now and this is my opinion.
Dublin zoo has about 35 mammal species and very few bird species but concentrates on larger groups of the bigger animals. Good breeding groups of white rhino, elephant, gorilla, orang, mangabey, celebes ape, hippo, giraffe, flamingo and waldrapp ibis, all exhibited well in spacious modern enclosures. It is a lovely zoo to visit and the grounds and lakes are really nice, but it has no real rare species.
Tayto park is a half hours drive away and they have probably more and rarer species, but mostly smaller mammals and in pairs or small groups.
Aardwolves. fishing cat, jagourundi, tayra, corsac fox, amur leopard, ocelot etc. and lots of pheasants and waterfowl, plus a big herd of american bison. The enclosures are pretty basic and the grounds are not as mature or pretty as Dublin and are shared with an adventure type playground.
Unlike the Berlin zoos or even Chester which require two days each per visit, both Dublin zoos could be fully seen in a single long day. The only animal common to both these zoos are meercats, so a lot of species can be seen if you combine the two. Dublin can be fully seen in about 4 hours and costs 15.50 e per adult and Tayto about 2 hours and costs 12 e per adult.
