In which a beloved, if pocket-sized, zoo makes its arrival in the competition. Dortmund carries forth carnivores. Bristol brings primates into the discussion.
 
When I looked at Dortmund's carnivore list, I thought this would be a walkover. Then I looked at the primates list and was surprised to find that it's as bad as Bristol's carnivore list. Tough one to call
 
Dortmund's carnivore collection is pretty good, but mostly housed rather unspectacular, the Lynx aside. Primates are also not its strong suit, with only a limited species number, also not in extremely interesting or particularly good enclosures. The Malayan tapir - Orangutan mix is interesting, but especially outdoors is quite lacking in climbing opportunities.

This being almost exactly what I was thinking, and very much the reason why I went with Bristol despite the number of carnivore oddities at Dortmund.
 
So is it being suggested that Bristol's primate exhibits are great? Bristol cannot beat Dortmund on carnivores, Dortmund couldn't win on primates alone. So are Bristol's primate enclosures better than Dortmund's carnivore ones?

I can't think of any really good primate exhibits at Bristol, most are OK, but nothing spectacular?

A win for Bristol
 
Does Bristol still have Dourourcouli ? Didn't see any last month. As for the 7-1 score on Cats meaning nothing for Dortmund, I've given my opinion on this strange scoring system already, enough said
 
I took the information from ZTL, but I'll change the result to a 5-4 Bristol win. Dortmund has a good collection of cats, but Bristol has a good collection of true lemurs.
 
I'm looking at the figures on ZTL, I don't understand why this is such a thrashing!? Both slaughter each other in one category Bristol have one decent carnivore enclosure , other than that their collection is poor and enclosures average . Dortmund smashes Bristol on carnivores, someone please make a case for Bristol's wonderful primate enclosures? I don't see any despite the win on species

  • Very nice gorilla island - and a pretty attractive house as well.
  • Primate islands are the archetypal such exhibits; if the animals are out, they can look spectacular there (if they're not, they don't, of course).
  • Functional Monkey House - nothing too special there. But not bad either.
  • Aye-aye in the Nocturnal House have to be worth something.
  • Drill cage is, of course, ugly and inadequate - but it does have Drills in it.
