Closed ZooChat Friends option

I have had a few people (not many) send me a private notification to add them to my friends list on ZooChat. Of course I have always said yes, but I don't really know what this means. Can someone please explain what the purpose of the FRIENDS option on ZooChat is?

I'd like to thank you for asking; I have been planning to ask for a long time what exactly a Zoochat friendship does.

I have sent a few friendship requests but recieved many more. I accept them, even from users I don't know. It may seem silly, but it doesn't seem to make any difference as, unlike a Facebook friendship through which you can follow a person's private and public life, a Zoochat friendship doesn't change anything between two users.

I've often questioned the "friendship" request here as well. I just checked and I have 31 friends but I've always accepted them and I'm not even sure how one goes about requesting one. Does that tag a person's comments or threads? Interesting...

Since I just received (and accepted) another Friend request, I am resurrecting this thread. Does it mean anything at all?

It doesn't really do much - shows some info on your profile page, that's about it.

It can be used to restrict access to certain private parts of the forum if those features are implemented (which they aren't), for example: if we had the blogging feature, you could set your blog to be private and only visible to your "friends".

The way we currently have the site configured, it doesn't do much at all.
