Closed ZooChat problems

I had problems with Zoochat again last night- very slow and when it did come up, I couldn't get into my p.m. box or open most of the Forums either. I could access other sites on the Internet, no problem. I do seem to get this sort of problem sometimes with Zoochat, but not with any other sites I look at on the Internet. Any ideas? This morning its working fine again.

I also have a problem deleting my own posts now, possibly that's a leftover from the settings being changed when I stopped being a Mod?

Indeed, the past few days have been marked by intermittent periods of extreme slowness on the site. Hopefully will be fixed before too long.

And I'll always be glad to use my new powers to delete any posts you want removing

Yeah, there have been ongoing problems with the web server, both in slow response times and it just dying. I've had to restart the web server multiple times to keep it running recently. I'm still looking into it.

In relation to deleting posts - as a regular user, you have (I think) 48 hours after you post to make edits, after that you need to ask a mod to do it for you - easiest way is to report your own post and explain what you need done, and why.

FYI - posts are generally not deleted without a good reason.

Yesterday and this morning ZooChat just wouldn't open at all - I kept getting a "502 Bad Gateway" message. And for the last two weeks it has been exceeedingly slow for me at times, sometimes threads and photos taking over 30 seconds to open.

I've been getting the "Bad Gateway" message quite a bit too. Although it helps focus me on doing actual work.

Sim posted on ZooChat's Facebook page today that:

Doing some work on the server to try and make things work a bit more reliably - will be up and down quite a bit for a while ^SH

So hopefully this is only temporary.

Hi Sim

Today I uploaded a small number of pictures from my visit to Jardin des Plantes in Paris from this week.

Every time I pressed process, I got a 'page not available' page, so I pressed 'back' and tried again. After 4 times I realised that the first picture of the set had actually been uploaded (4 times!) but the others had not.

I loaded the others one by one, but now the thumbnails do not appear in the gallery (although if you click on the blank thumbnail the full picture is available).

Not sure where problem is - could it be my PC?

Is there any way to restore the thumbnails?

it's not your PC, there appears to be a problem with the gallery right now. When I've tried uploading photos (three at a time) it will only upload them one at a time and then there will just be a blank page. I have to close the page, re-open Zoochat and go back to the "new photo" button, and the other two will be sitting in queue. Then I have to repeat twice more to get all three uploaded. Time consuming!

In your case, if you are pressing "back" and doing it again that will be why you are getting multiple uploads. What I do in that situation is re-open the page and if the photo hasn't uploaded then it should be sitting in queue.

If the thumbnails aren't appearing (which they aren't, because I can't see them) it is usually because there is a problem with one or more which messes up the whole column on that page. (Sim has said something about that before, and I think if he fixes that one problem then all the thumbnails get restored as normal). Again, for your photos I can't see the thumbnail OR the full-size photo if I open it (I just get the thread with a blank space where the photo should be).

OK...thanks for the info and for taking the time to reply to this while you are still on your trip (which I have very much enjoyed reading about!).

If I click on the blank thumbnails, I do get the full picture, but if others cannot see them, that is a problem - so I will try reloading one at a time. when

Ah......it appears to be OK now.

I can see both thumbnails and photos...hopefully everyone else can too.

oh, sometimes too the thumbnails aren't visible because there is some maintenance work being done with the software (or something like that), not because there's something wrong with the thumbnails themselves. So when it is finished the thumbnails re-appear as usual.

well I discovered that the way I was doing things (in the first paragraph above) also resulted in double uploads, despite there being only photo visible in the gallery and the upload page saying there were still photos in the un-uploaded "queue". I had to delete a lot of doubled photos. A bit weird.
