Other news from Beauval, not related with Snub-nosed Monkeys : many outdoor enclosures for small mammals (the Mongoose enclosure near the Elephant house, the row of aviaries for Marmosets/Tamarins along the main Primate house...) have been put down, probably for renovation.

More cheerful news : the arrival of a second Lesser Antillean Iguana has been reported in the Neotropical section of the Dome (noticed on Véronique Colombel's account on Facebook).
At the opening of the Dome, back to 2020, there was a pair of these reptiles but one of them passed away one year later, leaving the "survivor" alone.
I hope that these animals, typical from the French Caribbean (among other islands) and classified as CR since 2018, will breed in Beauval in the near future.

I would appreciate if you were a little more careful with your wording: 1.) We have PR Chinese readers on this forum too. 2.) If it were not for Chinese zoos there would probably be far less well protected snub-nosed monkeys in the wilds and less represented in captivity.

The Rhinopithecus complex is represented by Sichuan or golden (Sichuan further west up to Tibetan Plateau), Yunnan (Yun Ling Mountains) and Guizhou (Fanjingshan). Some zoos outside the national Capital Beijing do exhibit more than just the Sichuan / Golden-snub nosed monkeys. The Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys are exhibited in at least several other major zoos in P.R. China.

1) Honestly you seem to be more offended than any Chinese national. If they are, they are free to let me know, please. Animal diplomacy is stupid, the scheme is stupid - Not the Chinese people, the scheme. The scheme is stupid because it does not make sense in the light of modern conservation - it's all about diplomacy - not conservation. The scheme brings very little to nothing of interest for the individual animals that will travel half a world. It will be a stressful unnecessary journey for them. All the money and logistics for this would be better employed in helping Chinese zoos improve and expand their programme in China. There are certainly dozens of primate species already present in Europe that need precious carrying capacity instead of this species. And if this will help the wild populations of the species? I very much doubt it.
2) My comment has nothing to do with Chinese zoos. They are not the ones making these decisions - and you know that very well. Let's not be naïve.
 
A couple of news about Beauval's animal collection :
  • 0.1 Fishing Cat is back (reported by Antoine and Anthony forum/chat members of Howtank). I don't know anything else on her.
  • No more Stella's Lorikeets nor Yellow-bibbed Lories in the Bird House (reported by JoJo / Howtank).
  • In the main Vivarium, that has been a change in the small lizard exhibits, where the Allison's Anols have been replaced by Arboreal Alligator Lizards (Abronia sp., no more precision regarding to the species that seem to be rare within regular zoos ; reported by JoJo / Howtank).
  • The Yellow-footed Tortoises have been placed in the Smooth-fronted Caimans' enclosure in the Dome (reported by JoJo / Howtank).
 
Beauval has just launched a new winter animation, dedicated to the training of the birds that perform in the bird show "Les Maîtres des Airs" in spring/summer/autumn.
The animation will take place every morning at 11:15 AM in the bird amphitheater, the guests will attend it without any extra fee.
I would love to go there in my next visit, probably in January 2025.

A couple of news from Beauval to conclude this year, regarding the animal collection and the projects :
  • arrival of Vietnamese Crocodile Newts Tylotriton vietnamensis in the Dome, it's a new species for the zoo, that fits with the "Vietnamazing" campaign theme of these 2024-2025 years, and that may be the very first representent of the Urodela order to be publicly displayed in Beauval (reported by JoJo from Howtank forum/chat) ;
  • the Stella's Lorikeets are back in theBird House ;
  • the lizard collection of the African vivarium (in the Lion's cave) has been reduced, only the Emperor Flat Lizards and the Ringed Wall Geckos remain, plus 2 Radiated Tortoises (the Pancake Tortoises seem to be gone, or at least in the backstage) ;
  • the outdoor enclosure of the Southern Dwarf Mongooses v will be considerably enlarged (by 10x...) and will probably host a mixed exhibit with other species : Rock Hyraxes are very likely (as they are close to the Elephants that are displayed in the same area, and on the increase in European zoos...) but there are rumours about Dik-diks and Porcupines (reported by JoJo from Howtank forum/chat) ;
  • a new walkway will link the Chinese zone to the Wolf/Bear quarters, along the future Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys' aviary ; there wouldn't be the quite unpleasant dead end to the Wolf/Bear zone ;
  • a Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo joey has just emerged from the pouch of his/Her mother NAÏS (reported by Geoffrey from Howtank forum/chat).
